Our third liftgate pilot is underway  šŸš›

This week, our all-electric Beltdraulicā„¢ liftgate began a new pilot with one of the top five trucking fleets in the U.S. This is our third liftgate pilot, and in many ways it’s the one we’ve been building toward.

Our first pilot put early liftgates in front of real fleets and handed us a long list of things to fix. We worked through that list and completed a second pilot earlier this year with a major food and beverage distributor, where the liftgate achieved 98% uptime. This time, the list of corrective actions was just five items long, and we’ve addressed them.

We also learned that fleets don’t all want the same thing. Our previous customer asked for a grated platform to help with snow and ice. This fleet’s crews roll delivery equipment on and off the lift, so they need a smooth deck with just enough texture for secure footing that won’t catch wheels. Lessons like that, and the vast majority of what earlier pilots taught us, are built into the liftgate now going into service.

That makes this pilot a different kind of test. It tells us whether we know exactly what to build for customers who buy these liftgates and keep them, and it’s an important next step toward pre-production.

We chose a pilot with deliveries right here in Boston, close to our team, so we can support the fleet quickly and learn as much as possible along the way.

If you spot our liftgate on a truck around Boston, snap a picture and send it our way.
